Arktikum turns green on St. Patrick’s Day

Arktikum in Rovaniemi turns green on St. Patrick’s Day on 17 March 2020. The glass tube of Arktikum illuminates green a whole day and night.

In addition to Arktikum, many iconic buildings, venues, and spaces across the world illuminate green in celebration of the Irish national day, including Madison Square Garden in New York, Leaning Tower of Pisa and Niagara Falls. “The Global Greening” is an initiative of Tourism Ireland, and the campaign aims to bring Irish rich culture and heritage to wider audiences.

By taking part to the Golobal Greening, the actors in Arktikum – the University of Lapland and City of Rovaniemi – wants to show friendship to Irish. Ireland has been active in Arctic cooperation during the past few years and Rovaniemi is the Arctic capital of Finland and Arktikum is the centre of Arctic cooperation.

– Ireland is an important partner for the University of Lapland. We have had long-term student exchange cooperation with many Irish universities and in February 2020 the first Irish university joined the UArctic network, tells Outi Snellman, Director of International Relations of the University of Lapland.

Arktikum exhibitions are open on 17 March between 10am – 6pm. After the sunset, the great place to admire the lighting is the Arctic Garden by the riverside.
