See the best way to reach Arktikum and find your way around the building unhindered.

Arrival

On foot

The routes leading to the inner courtyard from both the sidewalk side and the parking area are fairly steep and may be difficult to navigate with a wheelchair.

Driving instructions

Arktikum is conveniently located along highway E4, right on the edge of Rovaniemi city centre.

Arriving from the south
Approaching Rovaniemi on northbound highway E4, keep on the right lane past two citybound exits and drive through the Revontuli shopping centre tunnel. Immediately after the tunnel, use the exit ramp on the right, taking the left lane towards Kittilä. Turn left, keep on the lane and follow the signs directing you to Arktikum.

Arriving from the north
Approaching Rovaniemi on southbound highway E4, take the first exit ramp to the city centre. Select the right lane on the exit ramp, and follow the signs directing you to Arktikum.

Parking

There is four hours of free parking at the Arktikum parking lot using a parking disc.

Handicapped parking spaces are located in Arktikum’s courtyard.

Buses may leave visitors at the main entrance, but we have designated bus parking that is specifically marked.

Accessibility

Arktikum’s main entrance door is automatic, however, accessibility can be somewhat hampered by the heavy doors leading to the exhibitions. This is why we recommend you have someone to assist you should you require additional help. Assistants have free admission. Guide and service dogs are welcome to Arktikum. Wheelchairs are available at the information desk.

There is a threshold at the main entrance of Arktikum, which means the entry is not fully accessible. The button to open the electric door is on the left.

The Polarium hall located in Arktikum does not have designated wheelchair spaces.

Elevators
Elevators are located on both sides of the main corridor, past the information desk and museum shop, right before the stairs.

Cloakroom

Coat racks and lockers are free of charge and can be found close to the admission and information desks. Larger luggage can be stored in the luggage room while you enjoy your visit. Please leave studded shoes in the cloakroom.

Wheelchairs and strollers can be borrowed free of charge from the information desk.

Arktikum is not responsible of any items left on the stands.

Toilets

Women’s and men’s toilets are located along the upper corridor after the information desk and the museum shop (6 in total), beneath the staircase in the lower corridor (2 in total), as well as by the restaurant (6 in total).

Handicapped toilet facilities are located in the upper corridor on the left and right side of the coat racks.

Arktikum provides facilities for Toilet Pass holders.

First aid and child care room

The first aid and child care room is located on the right side of the upper corridor, after the information desk, museum shop and coat racks. Strollers and wheelchairs can be borrowed from the room free of charge. Read more tips for visiting with children here.
