Like many iconic buildings in the world, Arktikum in Rovaniemi was illuminated green in celebration of the Irish National Day on the 17th of March 2020. Even though Arktikum is closed for public the illumination continues in blue. After dark, people can admire the illumination for example from the Arctic Garden outside Arktikum.
-We decided to continue the illumination of Arktikum because people need joy and hope in their lives during these exceptional circumstances due to the coronavirus, tells Hannele Koskiniemi, CEO of Arktikum service Co.
Arktikum – museum and science centre will be closed for public at least until 13th of April 2020 according to the advice of the Council of State. Arktikum will be opened again as soon as it has permission to do so. Information about opening will be sent out separately in due course.
