New skis

In December I was hopping about with excitement and the time just wouldn’t go. I really tried to be smart: I hinted about how Veli Saarinen in Lake Placid must have got the smoothest, new skis.  I can hardly remember anything else about that Christmas Eve evening but I’m sure I’ll never forget that long thin package wrapped in kraft paper.

Founded in Rovaniemi in 1927, the Ounasvaara Ski Club now has around 3,500 members. The famous Ounasvaara Winter Games took place for the first time that same year. They attracted 32,365 spectators in 1964 – a record number.
