100 Objects, 100 Pictures
1.2.2017 – 14.1.2018

In 2017, Finland will celebrate its centenary of national independence. In honour of the event, the Regional Museum of Lapland will stage 100 Objects, 100 Pictures, an exhibition on the history of Rovaniemi and its inhabitants from 1917 to 2017 displayed with 100 objects and 100 photographs.

Highlighted from each decade are photographs, archive materials and objects from the museum’s collections that tell about the history of Rovaniemi and its people. The exhibition also addresses the basic activities of the museum especially with regard to maintaining and managing collections. What materials from over the 100 years do the collections contain? Why have these items in particular been acquired and collected and what do they tell? It is also important to identify so-called blind spots, matters and phenomena that for some reason or another have not been recorded in the collections.

Museum collections are acquired mainly through donations. This exhibition also presents the importance of donors in recording our shared history. The materials that are obtained for museum collections are of greatest value when their stories and information on their context are also passed on to future generations. Stories and recollections are also an important part of this exhibition.

100 Objects, 100 Pictures is Rovaniemi’s very own independence centenary exhibition.
